Sales List!

New Items & Sales:

Cork Bark!

I now have a much bigger selection of cork bark, including half rounds and tubes, in addition to the small bark flats I already listed in December.

Many of these are one of a kind pieces, so I made a whole page just for the Cork Bark.
Check it out by clicking [Here]

Bamboo Tubes -

These make fantastic hides for isopods, roaches, spiders and even fish.

Let me know whether you want your tubes with one end closed, or both ends open.

Freezer sterilized.
12 tubes - $5

Dried sardines -

I've been wanting another more meaty option for protein supplements for isopods and other critters, and these fit that perfectly.
These are sardines sold for human consumption by the company I get them from in 1 kilo bulk boxes, so they're really nice quality, and they don't have a super heavy "fishy" smell like some dried minnows that are sold as dog treats.

1 cup volume/1.5oz weight pouch - $5

Field Elm Leaves - (out of stock currently)

Via one of my awesome field collectors in Texas, we now have the perfect leaf for small enclosures and small invertebrates. Field Elm leaves are a great little hardwood leaf and a lot of them fit in a quart bag. The only downside I can find is that I currently only have a few bags available.

Like all of my leaves, these are hand sorted and top quality, harvested from pesticide free locations.

Quart - $5
Deep freezer sterilized.

Willow Leaves -

Another score for my Texas field collector!
I've been wanting to add willow leaves to my list for a while now, but couldn't find a good local source to harvest from. Fortunately, my field collector came through and sent me a big box of these beautiful and fantastic quality leaves. A lovely hardwood that smells really nice, these are great for all detritivores.

Like all of my leaves, these are hand sorted and top quality, harvested from pesticide free locations.

Quart - $5
Deep freezer sterilized.

Acorn Caps -

Now these are a fun option for isopod hides!
Just as edible as Lotus or Sweet Gum Pods, but smaller and easy to scatter around for mancae and adults to hide in.

1 cup - $8

Kits & Bins:

Feeder Roach Starter Kits -

Want to get a little colony of Dubias or Red Runners going, but don't have the tools, time or space to devote to installing vents in bins, mixing substrate or figuring out everything you need?
I've got you covered!
This kit has everything you need, including your choice of a starter colony of Dubia or Red Runner roaches.
Red Runner kits will also come with a 4oz pouch of bee pollen, which is great for promoting regular reproduction.
Bin is a 20qt gasket bin with fine stainless steel mesh vents, to keep roaches in and pests out. Neither species can climb clean plastic, so no barrier oil is needed.

Contents:
20qt gasket bin, gallon of Roach Substrate, quart of oak bark, quart of hardwood leaves, starter colony of Dubia or Red Runner roaches, bee pollen with Red Runners. Minimum $90 value.
$70 + shipping.

Dairy cows are included for free with this kit, but you can substitute other pods on request for an appropriate increase in cost. I'm happy to do kits without pods on request. You can also add moss, lotus pods, magnolia leaves, etc. The base kit is designed to be suitable for beginner isopods, and may need additional items to work perfectly for species with more advanced care.

I can also do custom sizes for other bins, and kits without bin included. Bulk pricing is available if you want multiple kits.

Priority Shipping will be calculated based on time of year and destination. Cold or heat packs if needed are $5.

12qt Gasket Bins with Stainless Steel Mesh Vents -

(Widemouth Pint Mason Jar for scale only. Not included with bins.)

$15 per bin

Substrates:

Organic Topsoil -

Since finding good topsoil that's safe for inverts and not full of fertilizers, pesticides and weird stuff like bits of plastic or sand seems to be a problem in lots of places, I'm now offering gallon bags of the really nice local stuff I use for my own bins and mixes. I buy this directly from a local producer now, so supply is completely stable with no middlemen.
This is mostly shredded and well-composted hardwood, with the rest being sieved native soil. So it's got the beneficial soil bacteria needed to maintain gut biome in invertebrates like isopods and millipedes.

This is also a great base for terrariums and bioactive Reptile enclosures.
$3 per gallon

Isopod Substrate -

Organic composted hardwood topsoil, freezer sterilized white rot wood, natural charcoal, crushed coral, calcium carbonate powder.
This is what I use for all my bins.

Ingredients:
Rotwood - high grade food for detritivores.
Topsoil - mine is composted hardwood and sieved soil, which makes it both food and a source of soil bacteria needed to maintain gut biome.
Hardwood charcoal - absorbs ammonia and makes hiding places for good bacteria, isopod mancae and springtails. Supports pH stability.
Crushed Coral - slow release and munchable calcium.
Calcium carbonate powder - fast release calcium, helps set high pH.

Gallon bag - $25
Quart bag - $10
Full Box of 8 Gallons - $190, shipped - Full Box Substrate orders can mix and match substrate types. This is a bulk price that takes $5 off per gallon, with $30 UPS Ground Shipping included in the price. $40 savings over buying at standard pricing. Best value possible if you're doing multiple bins or want to stock up.

Millipede Substrate -

Organic composted hardwood topsoil, freezer sterilized oak leaves, freezer sterilized white rot wood, natural charcoal, crushed coral, calcium carbonate powder.

Ingredients:
Rotwood - high grade food for detritivores.
Water Oak Leaves - high quality hand sorted leaves, perfect food for millipedes.

Roach & Beetle Substrate -

This is what I use for all my roach bins.
Ideal for Hissers, Dubias, and most other commonly kept temperate and tropical roach species.
Not intended for large strictly wood eating beetles, but great for smaller detritivores like darklings and such. Not suitable for Arenivaga and other sand dwelling roaches or desert beetles, but great for forest dwelling Ironclad species and Hide Beetles. Please research the needs of your beetles before picking out a substrate.

Ingredients:
Topsoil - mine is composted hardwood and sieved soil, which makes it both food and a source of soil bacteria needed to maintain gut biome.
Rotwood - high grade food for detritivores.
Hardwood charcoal - absorbs ammonia and makes hiding places for good bacteria and springtails.

Best value possible if you're doing multiple bins or want to stock up.

Calcium:

Calcium Carbonate powder (food grade!) -

Calcium powder is great for everything from making calcium slurry for terrestrial snails to supplementing aquatic snail food or adding directly to the substrate of isopods and millipedes.

$4 per pound, $2 per 8oz, $1 per 2oz. Measured by weight.

Crushed Coral -

Crushed Coral is great for adding to invertebrate substrate for a slower release calcium source, and for adding to your filter in a mesh bag to slowly adjust pH and provide calcium for aquatic snails.

$4 per pound, $2 per 8oz, $1 per 2oz. Measured by weight.

Cuttlebone -

Finally!
I found a source of great quality cuttlebone for my sales list. No salt or weird additives.
Want a natural calcium source that makes a good hide for isopods? Try these.

$1 each, in 6, 12 or 24ct sizes.
Default size is 6ct for $6
Larger or smaller amounts available on request.

Bone Chunks -

Chunks of cut up bone for your isopods to eat and hide in.

These are sourced from a professional taxidermist, and have been properly degreased and cleaned. They're pieces of skull and other bones from various exotic herbivores like impala. This is the bone leftover after horns and hides have been used for taxidermy.
I've cut them up in reasonable size pieces for your isopods, and removed the teeth since tooth enamel is a bit too hard and less useful for calcium.

Quart bag: $9

Foods:

Invertebrate Foods -

This item has been a research project of mine for at least a decade.
And now, Gastropoid's Invertebrate Foods are a reality!

There's three finely powdered formulas to start things off, but more will be added.

1oz volume for the small, 2oz or 4oz bigger packs. Measured by volume.
$4/$8/$15 +$5 shipping.

Dried Freshwater Shrimp -

Great protein for isopods, millipedes and roaches.
Add a 2oz pouch of dried shrimp to your order for $2, or a 4oz for $4. Measured by volume.

Mixed Dried Protein -

This is a mix of mealworms, crickets and dried shrimp for all your protein lovers. If you wanted something different than the plain dried shrimp, here you go:
Add a 2oz pouch to any other order for $3.
4oz pouches are $6.

Organic Bee Pollen -

Extremely high quality, food grade and in powder form.
Loved by many different invertebrates, bee pollen is especially useful when keeping Red Runners as it seems to prompt breeding when added to their diet.
A little bit goes a long way.

4oz resealable pouches - $9

Dry Goods:

Hardwood Charcoal -

For those who want to add charcoal for springtails, as hides for small isopods or to boost soil bacteria, or want to mix their own substrate but don't want to buy big bags of everything, I now have quart and gallon bags of high quality hardwood lump charcoal.
Choose either large lump, or crushed.
Quart - $5
Gallon - $15

Botanicals:

Leaves:

Water oak leaves

Gallon - $15 (shown)
Quart - $5
Deep freezer sterilized. Currently partly very soft partially decayed leaves with occasional acorn caps. Absolutely perfect for millipedes.

A lot of people selling leaves just rake them up, shove them in a bag, and you're lucky if they've even been frozen. I spend time hand-sorting to make sure you're only getting good leaves. Not sticks, rocks, pine needles, dead bugs, spiders, etc. The leaves are then frozen for a minimum of three days at -45° in a deep freeze.

Hardwood Mix Leaves -

Gallon - $15 (shown)
Quart - $5
Deep freezer sterilized.

Hand-sorted to make sure you're only getting good leaves. Not sticks, rocks, pine needles, dead bugs, spiders, etc. The leaves are then frozen for a minimum of three days at -45° in a deep freeze.
This is a mix that may include sweet gum, maple, red oak, sycamore, elm, wild grape, yellow poplar and water oak leaves. Contents will vary, and mix will be labeled on bags according to the current batch. (Sweet Gum & Maple mix shown)

Sweetleaf leaves -

Gallon - $15 (shown)
Quart - $5
Deep freezer sterilized.

Just like my oak leaves, I spend time hand-sorting to make sure you're only getting good leaves. Not sticks, rocks, pine needles, dead bugs, spiders, etc. The leaves are then frozen for a minimum of three days at -45° in a deep freeze.

Bamboo Leaves - Limited amounts available, restock expected to be intermittent.

My isopods were immediately interested and act like these are treats. Would be great for roaches too. Unexpected bonus - these leaves smell really good.

Quart - $5
Deep freezer sterilized.

Magnolia leaves -

These are awesome hides and food dishes for isopods and roaches that break down into leaf litter and snacks over time.
The small ones are great for smaller bins or using as leaf litter in large bins and terrariums.
Large leaves are shown packaged in gallon size bags.

One Dozen Large or Small leaves: $7
Deep freezer sterilized.

Misc botanicals:

Lotus pods - limited stock on hand, restocking soon

These have been a favorite of isopod keepers for a while, since they give lots of spaces for both adults and mancae to hide.

So I finally tracked down a good source at a great price. Like my other dry botanicals, these are freezer sterilized to prevent hitchhikers.

6ct bag - $12

Sweet Gum Pods - Limited quantities, restock expected to be intermittent

Used as hides for isopods and springtails. Isopod mancae in particular seem to like the little holes on these. Freezer sterilized to make sure these are safe and not full of hitchhikers.

$6 per 2 dozen

Moss & Lichen:

Fresh harvested moss, mixed species -

Quart bags - $10
Half quarts, to do one isopod bin - $5
Can freezer sterilize on request in my regular freezer, which probably won't kill the moss. This item is not default sterilized. Tell me if you're looking for something specific like moss to mount on wood or plant on dirt.

Lichen covered oak sticks -

Gallon bag - $10
Sterilized at regular freezer temperatures on request.

Reindeer lichen -

Hand harvested on my land. No dyes or additives.
Quart bag  - $15
Sterilized at regular freezer temperatures on request.

High quality dried sphagnum moss -

Quart bags - $2
Great for isopod moisture gradient, and for shipping isopods and millipedes.

Bark:

Oak bark -

This is oak bark from rotting logs, perfect for hides and nibbling by detritivores like isopods.
Quart bag - $10
Oversized - $15 - currently out of stock
(oversized pieces are packaged in gallon bags, and can have as many as six big chunks. It varies by what will fit. Sometimes they're wide, sometimes they're long.)
Deep freezer sterilized.

Fresh Red Oak Bark -

Unlike my usual bark, this was pried off of freshly fallen logs by a field collector up in the hurricane affected area of the NC mountains. The storm got this tree, but we can at least make use of the bark.
It's very dense and heavy, and thicker than my other stock. Great for situations where you don't want your bark hides eaten quickly, and don't want something that is completely inedible like cork bark.
Due to source, when this is gone, it's gone.

Quart bag - $10

Deep freezer sterilized.

Pine Bark - Mossy and Plain -

Not suitable for most isopods.
This is pine bark, not hardwood.
Be absolutely certain the species you are keeping is a pine loving species. Do not order this bark for anything that needs hardwood.
Please do your research.

Great for terrariums without inverts and with pine loving species like some flatback millipedes and roaches.

Plain pine bark gallon - $10
Mossy pine bark quart - $5
Mossy pine bark gallon (large pieces) - $15

Plants:

I have native ferns I can collect from an area where my neighbor is expanding our road - sensitive, royal, wood and cinnamon.

Ask for prices and shipping quotes.

For aquatic tank keepers, I have floating plants - red root floaters, giant duckweed, and salvinia minima mixes. $10 for a half quart.
(Availability varies. Please ask what I have on hand)

Feeders & Cleaning crew:

Roaches:

Red Runner feeder roaches -

$15 per 100ct with other orders, $25 per 100ct by themselves.
Might be shipped as multiples of 50ct or as 100cts depending on how many large deli cups I have available, and what fits best in the box to get you the best shipping price.

Blaptica dubia - Orange-spotted Roach
Finally! Dubia Roaches are available!
One of the most popular feeder roaches, these also make a delightful pet roach colony in my opinion.

25ct nymphs - $15
12ct adult males - $10
12ct adult colony starters - $20 - 9 females, 3 males

Beetles:

Dermestes ater - Black Larder Beetle or Incinerator Beetle -
These guys are a useful and cute little dermestid that makes a pretty good cleaning crew for feeder roach colonies. In my experience they do a good job of cleaning up any leftover food, dead roaches, etc. Helps control gnats and fruit flies by outcompeting them. I keep them with my Red Runners.
Fair Warning: This species can fly. Open bins containing them cautiously.
20 count - $15

Isopods:

Porcellio laevis "Dairy cow" -
$5 per 50ct with any other order.
(I don't really count. You will get far more than fifty.)
Photo of adult in hand for reference. I only ship mixed sub adults for this species, so you have plenty of time to watch them grow.
DO NOT USE AS CLEANING CREW.
This species is very protein hungry and can be aggressive with other creatures.

Porcellionides pruinosus Morphs:

20ct deli cups of your choice are $10.
Shipped in damp sphagnum moss and leaves, and you will definitely get more than 20.

Good Cleaning Crew for Reptiles.
Not recommended for Cleaning Crew with other invertebrates.

Porcellionides pruinosus "Powder Orange"

Porcellionides pruinosus "Oreo Crumble"

And they wouldn't sit still for a photo, but I also have Porcellionides pruinosus "Powder Mix" which is a mix of Powder Orange, Oreo Crumble and Powder Blue.
