Substrates, Calcium Sources & Charcoal

Substrates:

Organic Topsoil -

Since finding good topsoil that's safe for inverts and not full of fertilizers, pesticides and weird stuff like bits of plastic, rocks or sand seems to be a problem in lots of places, I'm now offering gallon bags of the really nice local stuff I use for my own bins and mixes.
I buy this directly from a local producer now, so supply is completely stable with no middlemen.
This is mostly shredded and well-composted hardwood, with the rest being sieved native soil, so it's got the beneficial soil bacteria needed to maintain gut biome in invertebrates like isopods, millipedes, and terrestrial snails when used as a base for substrate mixes.
Excellent substrate for centipedes & non-arid arachnids.
This is also a great base for terrariums and bioactive Reptile enclosures.
$3 per gallon
Bulk box: $20 for 4 gallons, shipped.

Isopod Substrate -

Organic composted hardwood topsoil, freezer sterilized white rot wood, natural charcoal, crushed coral, calcium carbonate powder.
This is what I use for all my bins.

Ingredients:
Rotwood - high grade food for detritivores.
Topsoil - mine is composted hardwood and sieved soil, which makes it both food and a source of soil bacteria needed to maintain gut biome.
Hardwood charcoal - absorbs ammonia and makes hiding places for good bacteria, isopod mancae and springtails. Supports pH stability.
Crushed Coral - slow release and munchable calcium.
Calcium carbonate powder - fast release calcium, helps set high pH.

Gallon bag - $25
Quart bag - $10
Bulk box: Four gallons for $100, shipped.
Yes, you get free shipping on four gallons. They changed the shipping prices, so while the price of a big box of eight gallons like I used to do went up over $50 instead of the old $30 price, the price of smaller boxes that four gallons fit in went down to around $10, so I'm just doing free shipping on four gallons now. Best value possible if you're doing multiple bins or want to stock up.

Millipede Substrate -

Organic composted hardwood topsoil, freezer sterilized oak leaves, freezer sterilized white rot wood, natural charcoal, crushed coral, calcium carbonate powder.
This is what I use for all my bins.

Ingredients:
Rotwood - high grade food for detritivores.
Water Oak Leaves - high quality hand sorted leaves, perfect food for millipedes.

Roach & Beetle Substrate -

This is what I use for all my roach bins.
Ideal for Hissers, Dubias, and most other commonly kept temperate and tropical roach species.
Not intended for large strictly wood eating beetles, but great for smaller detritivores like darklings and such. Not suitable for Arenivaga and other sand dwelling roaches or desert beetles, but great for forest dwelling Ironclad species and Hide Beetles. Please research the needs of your beetles before picking out a substrate.

Calcium:

Calcium Carbonate powder (food grade!) -

Calcium powder is great for everything from making calcium slurry for terrestrial snails to supplementing aquatic snail food or adding directly to the substrate of isopods and millipedes.

$4 per pound, $2 per 8oz, $1 per 2oz. Measured by weight.

Crushed Coral -

Crushed Coral is great for adding to invertebrate substrate for a slower release calcium source, and for adding to your filter in a mesh bag to slowly adjust pH and provide calcium for aquatic snails and shrimp.

$4 per pound, $2 per 8oz, $1 per 2oz. Measured by weight.

Cuttlebone -

Finally!
I found a source of great quality cuttlebone for my sales list. No salt or weird additives.
Want a natural calcium source that makes a good hide for isopods? Try these.

$1 each, in 6, 12 or 24ct sizes.
Default size is 6ct for $6
Larger or smaller amounts available on request.

Bone Chunks -

Chunks of cut up bone for your isopods to eat and hide in.

These are sourced from a professional taxidermist, and have been properly degreased and cleaned. They're pieces of skull and other bones from various exotic herbivores like impala. This is the bone leftover after horns and hides have been used for taxidermy.
I've cut them up in reasonable size pieces for your isopods, and removed the teeth since tooth enamel is a bit too hard and less useful for calcium.

Quart bag: $9

Charcoal:

Hardwood Charcoal -

For those who want to add charcoal for springtails, as hides for small isopods or to boost soil bacteria, or want to mix their own substrate but don't want to buy big bags of everything, I now have quart and gallon bags of high quality hardwood lump charcoal.
Choose either large lump, extra large lump, or crushed.
Quart - $5
Gallon - $15
